Why You Should Consider Choosing a Christian School for Your Kids

When it was time to register our daughter for elementary school, we registered her for the public school system. FINALLY! We would have a bit of financial relief since we would no longer need to pay for preschool and/or daycare for her.

Then Brandon went to turn in her paperwork to her school. And when he came home, he brought up the possibility of finding a Christian school instead. It wasn’t that he went and the school was horrible or the office staff were unpleasant. Neither of those were true at all. It was just something he felt in his heart as he left the school. And so we started looking into Christian schools.

It took one tour and one tour only to find OUR school. We knew immediately that this would be where our kids would attend school. We felt peace–and we hadn’t even been previously all that concerned about schooling. After all, we hadn’t considered a private Christian education for our daughter really at all until the final hour!

So why did we ultimately pull our child from public school before she ever even started and instead choose to pay for a private Christian education? Why should YOU consider it for your own children?

1. A Biblical Worldview

These days, public schools can be a scary place for Christians who want their children growing up learning about God. Our country–our education system–can be so ANTI-God. A true Christian school with true Christian beliefs and values will hold fast to the truths of the Bible–not succumbing to the current worldview. The school should work with us as parents to keep God at the center of our lives, even in the school setting.

2.Community With Other Christians

Of course, we are not meant to only have relationships with other Christians and ignore all others. However, it IS important to have other Christians in our lives. When we put our kids into their school, we ended up also gaining Christian friends for ourselves and our children. Our children have friends who know and love the Lord. We have friends who know and love the Lord. Spending time together with other believers is a huge blessing in our life.

3.The Teachers

I’m sure you can end up with excellent teachers in the public school system. Brandon and I went to the same public high school and we both know that there are some amazing educators out there teaching in the public schools. Even still, our experience has been overwhelmingly positive as our kids progress through the grade levels. The teachers CARE. Even the teachers who aren’t our kids’ actual teachers know them and have kind words for them. Teachers at Christian Schools have a special calling to not just teach academics, but also to show the kids they encounter the amazing love of Jesus. And our school, that really, truly happens.

4.Academic Excellence

Again, public schools have many wonderful teachers and many super smart kids. But in our experience, the standard in a private Christian school is much higher. Even in Kindergarten, our school expects hard work and standing up to speak/answer in class. The expectations are high, yes, but that is because these kids are working at school as if they are working for the Lord. Since we want to encourage our kids to work hard and excel at school, we appreciate and understand the requirements in our school.

Over the years, we have found that there are so many reasons we are thankful for God calling us to put our children in a Christian school. As this world continues to get more and more upside down, we are encouraged by the things we see God doing in our school’s community.

If God is putting a Christian education on your heart for your children, our prayer is that you fully consider it and ask God to show you the path for you and your family.
